Have to say that Orange Swift is a moth I'm very familiar with but yes - it would be a bit on the early side. Will get the trap out again very soon to see if I can persuade it to re-identify itself. I tried to get it to participate in the (moth) group pic but it just crawled over all the others so it was sent packing without being photo'd! It is a fantastic moth plot/square here with a whole range of different habitat-types - and not yet fully exploited (i.e. trapping in the Castle grounds!?) .... but have to agree there should still only be ONE Pine Carpet! Will leave the score as it is as I netted a Light Arches just outside the workshop door at dusk yesterday ..... Yes, I'd also go for Oedemera nobilis, and I'd also query the Orange Swift (although it'll be along in a month or so anyway, so hardly the end of the world either way!)Andyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17350770541365430052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5666457738678091444.post-43457067434080670632013-07-01T16:53:29.033+01:002013-07-01T16:53:29.033+01:00You're getting some good moths there Mike, stu...You're getting some good moths there Mike, stuff I only see away from Leics. or in decent habitat (like Nascia cilialis, Lobster Moth, Alder Kitten, Satin Lutestring and Triple-spotted Clay). Orange Swift in June!!? Earliest I've ever seen was 28th July, with majority of my records from mid-August into September.
Think the beetle photographed is a Swollen-thighed Beetle Oedemera nobilis.
Some of the rules to this challenge are quite relaxed, but I think you can only tick each species once (see 706 & 711 Pine Carpet) ;-)Skevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05601888498478097564noreply@blogger.com
