Spent most of yesterday outside the square but did add Goldcrest, Chiffchaff and Mallard to the list. Added a few more bits and bats round the garden this morning, practising using the flash on the camera. Having the usual problems with finding interesting stuff and not being able to put a name to them as I don't have suitable books. Searching on the internet gives you a good idea what they are but it's difficult to be certain. I have used the iSpot website in the past but that can be hit or miss. For example, below are a springtail, slug and fungus which I cannot ID properly:
Hi Mark - for the slug, look two posts down!
ReplyDeleteYes, it looks like that photo, but looking at the key Brian suggested, there's lots of stripy species. Oh I dunno!
ReplyDeleteiSpot has come up trumps with the springtail though - Orchesella villosa.
Yes - Orchesella villosa, and the slug looks a candidate for Arion subfuscus but follow the key and check the slime colour ..... see http://www.naturespot.org.uk/species/arion-subfuscus
ReplyDeleteFungi - lost count of the number of @must be dead easy to identify' fungi that I've photographed and given up on.
Right, I shall hunt the bugger down tomorrow and de-slime it.
