Inverkeithing - no stone unturned

Sometimes a slow day at vismig (at a much neglected second 1k site) can turn out OK. Turning over a stone to find a lively ant nest resulted in spotting a few small white blobs active around the surface. Turned out to be the ant woodlouse Platyarthrus hoffmannseggii, which is pretty restricted in Scottish distribution

Fife - end of January for Cullaloe and Inverkeithing

Cullaloe: 402 spp.
61 new to reserve, 19 new for me. Stars of the show one new fungus for Scotland, a bunch of new mollusc records and a couple of worms. Remarkably, also two new moth species.

Aegopinella nitidula
Inverkeithing: 91 spp.
Because I'm just bunging all Inverkeithing records on iRecord I have no readily-accessible data on new for me or the square, though some undoubtedly are!

My patch - only one example of the fine art on display

Inverkeithing, Fife

Pottering along. Another handful added this lunchtime. Maybe I'll try for 100 by end January but odds might be long on that one.

invekeithing, Fife

A couple of nice finds underneath stones in Inverkeithing at lunchtime. Breezeblocks beside the garages held a small collection of the beetle Silpha atrata, buried in a thin layer of moss, and a Lithobius melanops. A Sowerby's slug was under a larger rock beside the coastal path. Total species for the year is creeping along at 77 but without a huge effort invested.

Inverkeithing, Fife - NT1382

A quickie lunchtime tour. Nothing out of the ordinary - just establishing a base for later lunchtime meanderings which are just to establish a base for vismigging later in the year! Probably won't do any moth-trapping here. May make 1000. May not (Probably will). If you were doing a vegetative survey much of the ground would have a high coverage of dog shit and Buckfast bottles. You watch where you put your feet here!
