Skye - Third/Quarter of the Way There

Just a very quick update, it is almost 2am after all...

Saturday 10th Feb was my first day off this month, I have Sunday 11th off work too. I blasted around a fair whack of my square, finding a few new millipedes, beetles and the odd harvestman or plant new for 2018.

Anyway, the upshot is that I'm on 337 species, which is just over a third of the way to the 1000 species total and exactly a quarter of the way towards my own target of 1350 species.

Plus I have a fair few samples of bryophytes awaiting ID. Hoping to push forwards to 350 species by the middle of next week. After that I'm off down in England until the start of March. It's a radical slow down, but still ahead of where I was this time last year. Pics to follow at a more reasonable hour...

  1. 1350 is a fine aspiration. But to stop only 57 short of the record - really? ;)

    1. Ah, I hadn't made that connection. No such thing as "only 57" when you're up in the 1300s, I imagine!

  2. I really shouldn't be mentioning this in public, but with a warm summer and with plenty of light trap activity for moths, beetles, bugs, flies etc I think it might be possible to beat the record just in my garden. On the other hand, will probably fall flat on my face. Now on 302 for the square.

    1. Oooof! That'd be a grand thing to do, best of luck with it. Ordered myself a proper light bulb just yesterday, so my homemade light trap will also be used in anger this year. Midges an inch deep in the bottom has been mentioned to me by a local moffer, something to look forward to...
