Dalgety Bay - Fish or Not Fish

One of my favourite things in any field guide. While browsing last night I realised just how many "frequent" or "common" species I haven't seen in the intertidal - bryozoans, hydrozoans, molluscs, crustaceans ... soooo many!

I am starting to fall in love with hydrozoans a bit. Cracking little things

Now, I also just "need" a couple of volumes on marine diatoms ...

Here are a couple of uncountable weather casualties I pulled out the seaweed banks:

Sand Goby I reckon

the same, but whole thing

Whiting? I refrained from taking it home!
The numbers ... of the Beast

  1. Can't see an anus on any of those 'supposed' fish, must be time to take up birding, haha! Technically though, you can count dead stuff if you're happy it died in your square. Says so in the rules. Personally I haven't gone down that route, but each to their own.

    1. There's a fair possibility the goby may have. In that weather both of them might have died a long way away! I do count dead stuff if it's in a pitfall I set because I trust the provenance but that's about it. Mind you I could have had a mouse record last year and I probably should have at least recorded it.
