As discussed earlier - the females overwinter and the males die off. At least in temperate regions. Presumably this means they may survive further south but he doesn't know.
Thanks Ali, certainly explains why I wasn't seeing any Muscina males. A bit like some Ichneumon wasps, the females overwinter in grass tussocks so it can be quite a good time of year to record them (if you can identify them!).
