A mega recording day yesterday resulted in getting to species number 1000, a male Gibbaranea gibbosa
|
Gibbaranea gibbosa male |
And a couple of great local records were Clouded Buff, a fantastic moth which I never dreamt I'd see here, plus a rare beetle, Ptinus sexpunctatus, with only a handful of Norfolk records.

Holy smokes, that's amazing! Congrats on your first 1K of the year (gauntlet sufficiantly thrown? ;) ) but in all honesty, why the heck not? Nobody has ever hit 2K yet. So....
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to showing you the world of bryophytes and microscopioc algae, so much progress for you to make!
Brilliant achievement, buddy. Bet you haven't even worked up a sweat yet, huh? :)
Also, the 'quickest' 1000 so far seems to have been 1002 species by 15th July 2013. So, once again, congrats on smashing the hell outta that record!
ReplyDeleteCongrats - a fantastic run and some cracking species in the final batch too! Now we just need to go up and add 200 species of fly to Seth's list ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, guys. I suppose 2K is a possibility, the main stumbling block is maintaining enthusiasm. Let's see how it goes. A warm summer with migrant moths and lots of diptera, coleoptera and hymenoptera would see me a long way there. Seth, we're only with you for two-three days so how are we going to get 437 lifers for me, spend several hours palying pool, drinking, rock-pooling, getting you over 1000+ species and then recruit me into the world of bryophytes and microscopic algae? At least you didn't mention lichens, that would make it a tough ask.
ReplyDeleteThis is very true, Tim. Maybe we should just have a pool tournament and get completely wasted instead, though I can get you a few lichens if you absolutely insist? ;)
DeleteI hadn't realised how much I wanted to do lichens until now. By the way, I have a tendency to get confused...
